Case Study: Climate protection starts in the mind

How a keynote speech by ClimateMind reveals psychological barriers—and inspires decision-makers.

Ready for change that really works?

Learn about the six most common barriers to sustainable behavior - and how to overcome them with psychological knowledge.

Project period: May 2025

Client: Regional Energy Agency Braunschweig

Target group: Executives and sustainability officers from over 40 organizations in the Braunschweig area

Format: Keynote speech at the second major event of the Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Business Network

Initial situation

How can organizations motivate their employees to do more for climate protection in the workplace - beyond simply imposing bans? This question occupied the participants of the Braunschweig business network. One thing was clear: if you really want to change something, you have to understand what prevents people from taking action.

ClimateMind's approach

As part of the major event, ClimateMind took to the stage with a 30-minute keynote speech presenting key scientific findings from climate psychology:

  • A look into the brain and heart: What prevents employees from behaving in a more climate-friendly manner?
  • Moving the brain and heart: Teaching effective strategies for activating employees – evidence-based and practical.
  • Reflecting on the current situation: Participants identified live the psychological barriers that are currently most pronounced among their employees.

Results & Impact

  • A fundamental understanding of the psychological mechanisms that promote or inhibit climate-friendly behavior.
  • Practical approaches on how employees and customers can be specifically motivated to rethink and act.
